Selling Native American Soul

The views I have on this article is how does a non-native create articles and books based on native life and cultural which is then labeled as truthful and accurate? How does a well known auther like Curtis, create a image that can stereotype "Indianness"? It is the sterotypes like these that make natives look like savages and that they still run around in their native gowns looking to scalp people. These books should be written by natives who can descibe what native life is, how natives live and what the cultural is, not someone who makes it up to what image they want people to believe. I agree that some stuff like the ceremonial knowledge is sacred and priviate, and I personally believe that most aboriginal communties still follow that today, keeping it priviate and sacred. I had liked the quote from Vine Deloria Jr. as saying their writtings are interesting but it has nothing to do with natives, "its about what the white people think Indians should be".

Love the quote, it fits in very well with the book 'The Imaginary Indian' which is all about the same subject.
