What appeals to me...
Things that appeal to me as a entrepreur is that everyday in your business is a new challenge, wheither it be smalll or large. Each day is a learning experience for your business. Taking one step at a time and dealing with any issues good or bad will accually help you and make your business a sucess. Another factor that I never really would have thought about is using your business plan as a guide for when you are stuck, after hearing about your plan being your guide it made so much sense, I probably would have just put it on the shelf and not looked at it. When the day arrives that i do have my own business, I will keep a spot open next to my everday things for my business plan and not put it on the shelf or box it away.

Teaching business plans
I sat down with my co-worker Melissa who is accually in the process of doing her business plan. She is currently working with a person who does business plans for people wanting to open a new business. I explained a few things that I have learned from this course and the two things I stressed to Melissa about her business plan is to have her executive summary and her exit strategy. Even though she has hired someone to do her business plan, she is looking forward to seeing that she has those two things included in her plan, especially after paying someone to do her plan. She has told me that she will take the information that I have provided about a business plan and put forth into her business plan and to use it as she goes further into her business. So I am glad that I can help someone with anything that I have learned.
Business Plans
Well I had to leave early from our class when there was a guest speaker due to parent teacher meetings I had scheduled. I had asked some of my classmates about how the guest speaker was and they had explained a few things that she had talked about. We had already been working on our business plan presentation so I was curious to what else there could be. From my point of view, it takes alot to do up a business plan, you have to be dedicated to your idea because just doing the plan can get discouraging. It takes alot of editing your plan, going over things constently and also I thing I had learned from my classmates when asked about the guest speaker is the Executive summary. That is one thing I had not known before that was very important to have included with your plan. Also what should be included in your plan is the exit strategy,it would accually benefit in the decision making with the investor's or lender's involved. In all a bussiness plan is something that requires alot of work and editing, going over things and sometimes frustrating, but if your plan is a good one then it would all be worth it at the end!

Online shopping complements the retail shopping experience.
After reading the stiory about that shopping complements the retail shopping experience, I saw that I myself have purchased in the past online and will eventually purchase in the future. I do alot of my shopping online but at the same time I also do shopping in retail stores. I think personally the reason that some people shop online is the fact that you can get things cheaper, like fore instence if I need to travel somewhere, I personally perfer to go online and book what i need instead of going to a travel agency, the result is I am saving a few hundred by doing this. Who wouldn't want to save? I know I do. Then you have the people who don't like going out into the stores or there being not much variety where they are located, so they then can go online to just about any store, because most chains of stores are online today, and purchase items that they might not be able to find in their areas, which is convienient for them. I still love the rush of shopping, expecially at christmas time, but at the same time when I need to save or just don't have the time I enjoy the conviences of online shopping.

Barriers that A First Nations Women Faces...
After thinking about someone to write for the barriers A First Nations women faces, I decided to write about the aboriginal women in general. The ideas are almost the same for each native women who is in a bussiness. Some of these barriers are facing critism, juggling family's and wife roles, being misunderstood because they are women, having their voices heard. When you talk to different women who are in the bussiness field you tend to hear the same pattern of barriers that they face, weither they are getting critisized for being a native women who is trying to run a bussiness, or is it just the fact that they are a woman and not a man? Do they face more difficulities for this? I personally believe in some cases that they do. Is this the same for having their voices heard, often making them misunderstood, either by the fact that people don't take them seriously or that they remain silent. Some people are busy just trying to manage the family life with the work load, which trust me takes alot for woman to maintain a balance in their lifes. Crises can arise any anytime, any place or anywhere, kind of unpredictable. It takes alot of juggling things in their lifes as woman are already use to.

Learning Journal...What does it mean?
To be professional in any field of work takes knowledge. You need to basically have common sense, and then, actually be using it. The person has to really know what they are doing to become successful. They would also have to be extremely competent in their job. The person has to make themselves approachable and reasonable, and give respect to other people is also important. If you present yourself in a bussinesslike manner, whether it be in person, by phone, or in writting is essential. Make sure you always project a bussinesslike apperarence. You need to really know what your doing, do your homework and know exactly what your talking about. If you are a bullshitter, this can put your creditability down and jeopardize your professional relationships. I think personally with the schools today is that they are giving the students the tools that are needed, then it is up to each student to take those tools and make it work.

Why is this Subject Taboo?
After After reading the story "Why is this Subject Taboo", I had some mixed feelings on it. While trying to keep the business aspect in mind, it was hard thinking of what to write in that sense. I could write alot about the article, not in a business aspect, but what does business have to do with it, so I had to reread it a few times to try and get the racism and predjudice I felt that came with it. It talks about other cultures that should be aknowledges and celebrated, and yes I agree they should be but why our Aboriginal people always fighting the answer is because of everything that had been taken from us, these other cultures might not have that, when do you here of other heritages having things taken? I never heard of any sort. Yes we all live in Canada and should get along but at the same time they should not be taking and still trying to take things from us like land and so forth. We need to work together expecially in a business sense, but why does it sometimes take longer for a native to get say...permits or some kind of document needed when starting a business, and you can talk to a non-native and they can recieve it weeks before, hassle free? Is the government afraid of natives making money? Getting ahead? Getting away from what they think of reserves being nothing but drunks and drug addicts? Well this is only my view on things, had alot of mixed views on this article.

Learning Journal
As I start my next course in the Aboriginal bussiness, I sit back and think what is this part of the course going to give me? What are some of the benefits I will take from this course. I realize that as a previous business owner and having a future business in mind, I need all the information that i can soak up to help guide me in learning new skills and techniques which would be a crucial part of remaining competitive. Some of the skills I hope to take from these courses is a variety of competencies which include leadership, management and communication skills. As I already stated, I once owned a business, which at the time I thought I had the skills needed but with these courses I hope to gain more insight. I might even be able to see what I could have done differently. At that time there was no need for taxation, but in my future bussiness there will be a need for it so it is a plus to be able to learn what is being offered. I am hoping at the end of the semester, to be able to have all the skills that are required to better myself in my previous job and in my future bussiness plan, whatever I learn will be a plus down the path one day, because you can never know everything and learning is a tool we need to further ourselfs. It never hurts to learn something which you might think you don't need today but it will accually be required of you for tomorrow.
QUIZ #1
First off I would like to point out that education is something which is very important. Knowledge is essential in order to secure as good a employment position as possible. It could improve the chance of obtaining better positions. Also becoming more organized and self-confident.
The type of learning that helps with myself is the learning process called critical thinking, where you are required to use different perspectives when looking at information. When a person is thinking actively, they are also thinking critically. Critical thinking helps myself analyze the information. I try not to be a passive learner, as I try to be asking questions and looking for answers. As a critical thinker, we analyze reason, and are able to draw conclussions from any information. As working in a bussiness, we know the impact of doing certain tasks and will always have alternate routes if a problem comes to light. As we take our course on-line, I think this is a route our teachers are taking with the students, as we will better benefit it in our future business's.

Selling Native American Soul
The views I have on this article is how does a non-native create articles and books based on native life and cultural which is then labeled as truthful and accurate? How does a well known auther like Curtis, create a image that can stereotype "Indianness"? It is the sterotypes like these that make natives look like savages and that they still run around in their native gowns looking to scalp people. These books should be written by natives who can descibe what native life is, how natives live and what the cultural is, not someone who makes it up to what image they want people to believe. I agree that some stuff like the ceremonial knowledge is sacred and priviate, and I personally believe that most aboriginal communties still follow that today, keeping it priviate and sacred. I had liked the quote from Vine Deloria Jr. as saying their writtings are interesting but it has nothing to do with natives, "its about what the white people think Indians should be".

Even though I didn't need to blog, I had an urge to suddenly blog about the fact that i fiinally handed in all my assignments. Mind you the last assignments were tough! Holidays!!
Well tomorrow I am working my last day before my vacation starts...can't wait. I will be taking all 7 children to Kahnawake for a vacation to visit family. I figure it's best I take the kids now because usually we go during the same time that I will be attending classes in Fredricton. Kids are excited to be able to go and do different types of activities that we have planned. I also figure its a break for my spouse since he will have all the kids when its my turn to head to Fredricton. Well thats it for now.

My children are loving it and friends have asked me to let them know if it works so they will go out and purchse it if it does.

Going to Quebec
I went to Quebec city this week for a forum. I enjoyed myself while I was there except that the 2nd day there I came down with some kind of sickness. I had a very bad migraine that made me sleep from 2:30 to 8:30, I could not believe it. It made me wonder if I was just very, very tired! I at least had time to shop the 1st day I got there, so I made sure I had picked up everything I promised the kids because of course if I travel anywhere I have to bring my children all something back, makes me wonder how spoiled we have made them. Well thats it for now.

Catching up
Well I am still trying to hang in there and catch up with everything. Seems like this week everything was happening from my sister in law, Amanda, having her beautiful baby girl Anayah, my 2 children's 1st communion and my littlest one having a very bad asthma attack. His never had any problem with it before but he started a cold and they think it just happened to trigger an attack, hopefully he doesn't have asthma. I also seem to be getting writer's block lately...hopefully that will change, well back to trying to catch up!

Story of James
As I read the story about James, it kinda hits home for me abit. My spouse and I who already have 5 children, had taken in 2 young foster children last year. June of this year those children were suppose to be going home to their mother, which we found out the other day that the mom is not ready and the social services are going to request another year with us. Now we wait and see what the judge will have to say because after the last hearing he might just place the children with us on a permenant basis till the children reach the legal age. Thats why I have been lagging behind in some school work as you can see trying to do this with working and raising 7 children at home, kinda hard. I will be trying to catch up on all the assignments that are due. So I can accually reflect with some of the story.

Week of the 15th of May, 2008
Well as I sit here in my office trying to do some work that needs to be done...thinking about how I can get my tooth and jaw to stop hurting, you see i have a partial root canal done yesterday. If I would have known how much the pain would be the next day, I think I would of had my tooth pulled in the beginning. Then I recieve a call for an appointment for phase 2. Like I really want to go back expecailly tomorrow, wonder if taking this pain or getting more pain is worth it? Starting to think those elderly people with no teeth know what their doing, take them all out and voila! No more PAIN. Well time to call my dentist back!

Assignment April 14th 2008
Personally I think the government has every individual marked down as a number for them to keep track of even before technology was out there. Our social insurance numbers are 1 proof of that. How do you think they manage to pay people for say family allowence, welfare, GST and so on. They can access everything about you just by having that number plus they can do it anytime anywhere without permission from anyone. Alot of places will let you know that when your asked your info its for the place only and that they will not leek out your information. Then there is those places that do leek it out which is scarey that after awhile numerous places have access to your info. When ever I am asked I return the question to what for? I hate to really give out info just because no one really knows whats lurking on the net. I have a friend who after purchasing tickets for the movies throught the bank machine, he comes to find out few weeks later that his saving account is gone and his in debt...all because some jack ass from the movie theater stole his information as he entered it into the interact machine.
Assignment for April 9th 2008
I can say for myself personally that I use the emails quite alot. It would depend on who your talking to for you to say conveying, as I talk to a close family member or friend, even though emails are known for being a chatty conservation, I think that they would understand if I was really excited about something or sad about another with out even hearing my voice, almost like they can hear me saying it. Then you talk to someone that is A casual conversation, thats when they won't have the same effect talking to you on the computer as they would on the phone. Emails can be used personaaly all depending on whose talking and whose talking to who on what. I personally would never give anyone bad news on A email but thats out of respect for the person. I just learned with the "Netiquette" is that its like a form of being polite when you can't answer your emails, say from being away, you can have a email sent saying just this. Also never really known about the replying because usually I'm the type that just clicks the forward button instead of sending a new email to anyone but maybe in the future I will start doing just that!

....
Well after watching the video for our next reponse paper, it had me wondering...What is the technology coming too? How much further is technology going to be? As you watch the differnet steps that it took for technology to reach today, imagine 10-20 years from now. Where will it be? It seems like it can't get any further since I feel like we've reached the point as to "what else is there"? Then i watch the Epic video and see that wow it can go further.
Wednesday, April 2, 2008
Wow what up with that?
In the first sizable layoffs in its history, Google is cutting about 300 jobs from the American operations of DoubleClick, the advertising technology company that it acquired recently, according to a person with direct knowledge of Google’s plans. Know why would they being that? I didn't get the whole info on it but is it from not needing people who are getting replaced with technology? Or is it just a corporate thing??

New Technology coming soon!
TIRED of hearing other people’s cellphone conversations? It may become worse. Soon you may have to watch their favorite television shows and YouTube videos, too, as they project them onto nearby walls or commuter-train seatbacks.
Pint-size digital projectors are in the works. These devices, when plugged into cellphones and portable media players, will let consumers beam video content from their hand-held devices to the closest smooth surface — entertaining themselves, annoying their neighbors and possibly contributing to a new warning sign: No Projectors in This Area. The microprojectors, still in prototype, use light-emitting diodes, lasers or a combination of the two to cast a display of up to 50 or 60 inches, or perhaps even wider, in darkened spaces and 7 to 20 inches or so when there is ambient light.
Digital projectors were once bulky. These new models, though, are small enough to fit into the pocket of consumers who want a big-screen experience from a small-screen device. Some of the models are expected to be on the market by year-end, or sooner.
Prices have yet to be announced. They might start $350, then quickly drop to less than $300.
The projectors may be particularly useful for business presentations — for example, when road warriors need to show a product video to small groups. No coordination would be needed to arrange for a screen. Instead, a patch of wall within a cubicle or restaurant could serve for an impromptu presentation. In a pinch, a manila folder — or even a napkin — would work, too.

Google Earth
Was just checking out stuff, surfing the net, came across a thing called Goggle Earth. Wow I have been every where in the world after that. It is so cool to go to say Egypt and see all the pyramids, or just to even go home to my reserve and see my familys house. Imagine what the gouvernment can see if we are able to see all this. Makes you wonder about it.

Well finally finished our group presentation!
Our group was finally was able to do our presentation...What a relief...was worried we couldn't do it because our power point was kinda large to send. Hoping we do well, thanks to Christian who made it possible to send to the teacher, cause without his computer knowledge we might have had to send it in 4-5 different emails, which would have been abit complicated.

Nervous for presentation.
Well today is the big day for our group to give our presentation! Starting to get really nervous about talking, like public speaking, really scares me, hope I do well enough and not stammer on my words. Hope all goes well!!

Interesting article
As I open up my women's world magazine...I find a article in there about the dangers lurking in the technology world. It's very interesting to read expecially for people who are not aware of those dangers lurking. The article talks alot about credit card scammers and opening a email message from a hacker, how it will take everything in your computer and ruin it just by opening the email message...crazy!!

Telling too much online.
As I first began to use the internet, which i was a beginner, I was playing cribbage in a online room. The other person that i was playing against started a conversation with me, how many kids, where you live, what you do for a living etc... Being new to the computer world I addressed her questions (could of been a he not sure). Few days go by and I go and start to play in the game room. When your in there you can keep a friends list so you can see when a friend comes on. Well up pops my new friend from the previous day, telling me that she went to the webpage containing the name of where I'm at. Through that webpage she found the school webpage, and in there she found 1 of my children since I said that i had a handicapp son. It scared me that a person would spend that much time looking up a person's info and accually finding it and knowing alot more about me. After that I made sure not too give too much info out to anyone and be lery of talking to people who I do not know...

Satalites
Most people are using the satalittes that are illegal, almost like the same as downloading the free music and videos online. They make it easier now to enter your own codes that you recieve online and your up and running in a couple of hours. If it was all illegal then how come they don't stop these sites from running? Kinda glad they don't...

Does GPS really work??
As I get to my destination in Quebec properly, thanks the the teshnology of GPS, I wonder why it tells me at 360 KM I still have 8 hrs to go? So i guess that technology has its good & bad about it because I know with the speed I'm going it will not take me that amount of time to finish my travel.

Technology online
Well as I begin to enjoy playing poker online, I also wonder if it could be rigged to lose? With the so many different computer programs out there anything is possible...

GPS
As I prepare myself to take off to Quebec City for a meeting, I am not well aware of where anything is there. I am so glad that with technology I will be able to find where the exact location is that I am going to. Just have to punch in my location on my truck's GPS and all's well, no stopping to ask for directions from anyone. I think they made the GPS for men since usually men are the ones that hate to ask for directions!

Learning new technology
I really was well informed about the smart boards tonight. I want to learn more before I am confident in using one. Like I said in my earlier post, the fastinating technology for the handicapp still leaves me in awe about the number of technology that is out there for them.
Technology for the Handicapp
As i enter for my son's appointment in Montreal, i see numerous technology gadgets. There is so many different things for children that can teach them or aide them with their walking or sitting. It makes me wonder if the world had never advanced how these children would not be able to get around on their own or hear, or just have their own independance.

Technology Today
Technology today is so advanced that it helps people with paying bills online, thank god no more trips to the bank! It also enables me to take the course that normally I honestly think I wouldn't have been able to do. When you sit back and think of the technology today and the difference from when I was younger, I'm accually in awe because I have never sat down and realized what has become and what is yet to come. I love the fact that I can reach other people through my Msn or Facebook accounts. My children also are so adapted to the computer world, my children all have Msn, even the 9 year old and 6 year old, that they even know about Facebook and want to set that up now! Starting to wonder when my littlest one will become aware of these things since he is only 13 months old.
